Mitchell School of Drama and Garidge Theatre presents
A brand new play from award-winning playwright Alan Bissett
Directed by Rhona Mitchell.
When the Suffragettes’ story is told – how brave British women fought for the vote – Scotland is never mentioned. Yet up here in Aberdeenshire a young but determined Kintore lass, Caroline Phillips, rolled up her sleeves and got stuck in too. The first female journalist in Aberdeen, she was also running the local branch of the Suffragettes, meaning not only was she standing up to the men but also to the great Pankhurst sisters in London, when they tried to take control of Aberdeen and impose their violent methods. Join us on this celebration of one of the shire’s unsung heroines, in a rousing, comical and musical exploration of womanhood, politics and the personal cost of both in the early 20th Century.
